Virginia Dare Quick Thorne, of Charleston, WV, died February 27, 2013, at Carrington Place in Matthews, NC after a short illness. Ginny was born on January 22, 1926, to Benjamin and Piney Quick of Quick, WV. She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters and two brothers, by her husband of 65 years, Basil, and their son, John David.
Ginny was a stay at home mom. Family was the most important thing to her and she was blessed to have a large family. Ginny and Basil enjoyed vacationing in Myrtle Beach, SC, and especially spent many hours pier and surf fishing. In addition to her fishing skills, Ginny was an exceptional 'baker' and specialized in Christmas candies and cookies with her best friend, Sherry Sanders.
Surviving children include Patty Kesler and husband, Benton, Bob Thorne and wife, Karen, Nancy Casto and husband, Craig, and daughter-in-law, Lynn Thorne. She is also survived by grandchildren, Eric Kesler and wife, Sara, Patrick Kesler and wife, Kate, Dr. Ben Thorne and wife, Shivangee, Shane Casto, Nicole Casto Kay and husband, Bill, Beth Ann Thorne, and Jonathan Thorne; and great grandchildren, Greysen Kesler, Matthew Kesler, Maxwell Thorne, and Charlotte Kay.
All services are private. Interment will be held in Tyler Mountain Cemetery, Cross Lanes, WV.
Ginny had requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the Ronald McDonald House of Southern West Virginia, 302 30th Street, Charleston, WV 25304.
The family would like to thank the staff at Carrington Place for the loving care they provided Ginny during her stay.
