Silas Elijah Long Jr., age 91, of Charlotte, NC passed away Monday, March 1, 2016 at Presbyterian Hospital. Mr. Long’s son and daughter were at his side holding his hands when the Lord called him home.
Silas was born March 9, 1924 in Mint Hill, NC. He was the son of the late Silas Elijah Long Sr. and Bessie Taylor Long. He retired from the United States Post Office, where he worked as a mail carrier for many years.
Whether it was going to ball games and cheering his team on from the sidelines, or watching the games on television, Silas loved sports. He also enjoyed working in his garden and rabbit hunting. Silas’s sense of humor was enjoyed by all those he came in contact with.
Mr. Long is survived by his son, Danny Parks Long; daughter, Amy Long Haizlip and her husband, Dewey Russell Haizlip; grandchildren, Bryan Russell Haizlip and his wife, Carol Ann; Lindsey Erin Bobrowski and her husband, Chas; Emily Nicole Galloway and her husband, Kyle; and Ryan Daniel Long. He is also survived by one sister, Lib Richardson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mozelle Parker Long.
A visitation with the family will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. A service to celebrate Silas’s life will follow at 2:00 p. m. in the chapel. Interment will be in Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.
