He was born on September 13, 1923 in Monroe, NC to the late Roy Edward and Grace Hamilton Garrison.
Roy was a Purple Heart Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served his country in the European Theater in WWII.
He married Stacie Jo Plyler on October 12, 1946. They were blessed with two daughters, Nancy Starr and Cathy Jo.
Roy worked his entire life in the Asphalt Industry in Sales. He and Stacie were charter members of Idlewild Baptist Church, Matthews, NC. Roy was an all-around sportsman especially passionate about deer hunting. But his greatest love was for his family. He took great pride in his four grandsons and six great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Stacie Plyler Garrison; daughter, Cathy G. Baker and husband Rick; son-in-law, Warren Simpson; grandchildren, Dr. Andrew Simpson and wife Kimberly, Matthew Baker and wife Stephanie, Troy Simpson and wife Tiffany, and Tyler Baker; great grandchildren, Starr Simpson, Andrew Simpson, Aubrey Baker, Ethan Baker, Samuel Simpson and Sean Simpson; his sister, Martha Griffin and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy G. Simpson; granddaughter, Lisa Starr Simpson; sister, Dorothy Kindley and brother, Robert Garrison.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at
Idlewild Baptist Church, 12701 Idlewild Road, Matthews, NC 28105 with a service of celebration starting at 3:00 p.m. The Reverend Keith Whitener and The Reverend Travis Byrd will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date at Sunset Memory Gardens.
The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Idlewild Baptist Church Benevolent Fund.
