Robert Lee "Bob" Phillips Jr.

Born July 25, 1935 in Mint Hill, Bob was the son of the late Robert Lee Phillips and Gladys Williams Phillips. He was a 1953 graduate of East Mecklenburg High School. Bob retired as owner and operator of Quality Equipment & Supply Company after many years in the truck equipment industry. He was a former member of the Queen City Model A Club. He was a former member and Past Master of Matthews Masonic Lodge #461 and a charter member and Past Master of Mint Hill Masonic Lodge #742. He was also a charter member of NC Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #353. Bob was a longtime member of Wilson Grove Baptist Church, where he served for a number of years as a deacon. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, family camping and was an avid NASCAR racing fan. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a son, Russell Lee Phillips.

He is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 59 years, Sadie C. Phillips; their children, Sandra P. Murphy and husband, Brad, John R. Phillips and wife, Kathy, and David L. Phillips, all of Mint Hill; his sister, Sue P. Rogers and husband, Earl, of Calabash; grandchildren, Sarah (Josh) Blue, Katie Phillips, Justin (Debbie) Phillips, Allison (Justin) Mode, Laura (Ryan) Buchanan and Travis (Heather) Phillips; and great-grandchildren, Bryce Phillips, Lauryn Blue, Emerson Mode, Wyatt Buchanan and Skylar Phillips.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, at Wilson Grove Baptist Church, 6624 Wilgrove-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary, with the Rev. Rob Mariucci and the Rev. Albert Leath officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mint Hill Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 23065, Mint Hill, NC 28227-0272, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
