Robert McMILLAN

Robert Gunter McMillan departed this life on December 12, 2013. He was born on November 1, 1928 in Columbia, SC to Daniel Ray McMillan and Virginia McCabe McMillan. Robert served his country as a young man in the U. S. Marines. He was a home builder in the Charlotte area for many years.

Robert was an adventurous and independent spirit. He had a special relationship with each of his children. His cats were close and loving companions in his later years. Robert enjoyed cooking and Carolina soul food.

His children love and miss him: Daniel Allen McMillan and wife, Judy; Pamela McMillan Freeburn and husband, Tommy; and Russell Gunter McMillan and partner, Debbie Fitts, all of Charlotte. Also surviving are five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and sisters, Betty Haltiwanger and Jeanette Seitz, both of Columbia, SC. Robert’s beloved wife, Betty, died in 1996.

His family thanks Royal Park of Matthews and Hospice of Charlotte for their compassionate and loving care during the last days of Robert’s life, as well as Shirley, his caregiver from Comfort Keepers who became a close friend.
