Mr. Lowery is survived by his wife of 58 years, Juanita Searcy Lowery; son, Jeff Lowery (Joy); daughters, Barbara Simpson (Eric) and Patti Freeman (Eric); eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, four adopted children, and his step mother, Marjorie Leab.
Bob was a graduate of Rockwell High School and attended NC State where he studied civil engineering. He began working at Duke Energy in 1956, and retired 35 years later. He was an EMT and Rescue Chief for the Mint Hill Volunteer Fire Department, and was on the Planning Committee for the Town of Mint Hill for several years.
Bob served God faithfully as a longtime member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. From the time he joined in 1986, he served as a deacon for a number of years and a Sunday School teacher. In addition, he worked in the accounting office, and volunteered with the North Carolina Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief effort, but his passion was Hearts & Hammers. As one of the founding members of the Hearts & Hammers team, he oversaw the design and/or building of over 400 handicap ramps, along with assisting in numerous other handyman projects in the community. Bob loved helping others and never asked for anything in return.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 9:30 am until 11:30 am Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, with a funeral service immediately following at 11:30 am in the worship center. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hearts & Hammers at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 6050 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte North Carolina 28215.
Arrangements under the direction of McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, Mint Hill, North Carolina.
