He is survived by his son Brian, two grandsons Casey and Caleb Abernathy, and a stepdaughter Candy Thomas.
He is also survived by his brother Larry Abernathy as well as many nieces, nephews and loving friends.
“Breezy”, as he was called, graduated from East Mecklenburg High then, joined the U.S. Navy where he achieved the rank of E3.
Later, working until retirement from Charlotte-Meklenburg as a bus mechanic. “
Breezy” was a Hotrodder, Champion Bullrider, avid horseman, great friend, and devoted father.
He is predeceased by his wife Kathy Abernathy, his parents Fred and Lillian Abernathy, and a brother Jerry Abernathy.
His celebration of life service will be held in the Mint Hill Chapel of McEwen Funeral
Services, 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Rd, Mint Hill NC 28227, on Wednesday July 15, at 12PM.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
