Jean, as she was known to family and friends, graduated from Tech High School and was a prominent member of the Tech Lunch Bunch for many years. She studied drafting in high school and became the first female draftsman in the Charlotte region. Jean married Roland W. Baucom August 6, 1943. Soon thereafter Roland was sent to Europe with the US Army during WW II. Roland was captured at the Battle of the Bulge in 1944 and discovered Jean was pregnant with their first child, David (Dell) currently of Kingwood, TX. In 1949, their second child, Carol Pharr (Rick) arrived. They reside in Midland, NC.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Roy Lee Barbee Jr. and Roland.
Jean’s family will miss her and are blessed with lasting memories of gatherings and visits. She has many friends from coast to coast and enjoyed traveling to meet family and friends and see the sights across the country. She loved yard sales and slow drives through the mountains with Roland. She was a very giving person and never met a stranger.
Jean leaves behind her son and daughter as well as four grandchildren, Kevin Huntley (Angie) of Concord, Lori Baucom of Galloway, NJ, Clay Baucom (Kellie) of Westminister, CO and Robin Neitman (TJ) of Fayetteville, NC. She was blessed five great-grandchildren, Zac Huntley of Concord, NC, Victoria Jean Kreutzer, Rudy Kreutzer and Jude Shaman of Galloway, NJ, Hayes and Nolan Baucom of Westminster, CO. She also leaves behind her former daughter-in-law, Susan McClintock of Mays Landing, NJ; and many additional family and friends.
Service will be held Sunday, April 9, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, at 2:00pm, with visitation at 1:00pm. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery on Central Avenue immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, family request donations to the charity of your choice, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or Palliative and Hospice Care, Charlotte Region.
