Born in Union County, North Carolina, on December 4, 1931, Paul was the son of the late Samuel Randolph King and Mary Manus King. He was raised in Union County, attended Fairview School, and spent his youth farming with his family. He married Ruby Moore in March of 1958. Paul made a career as a firefighter and retired from the Charlotte Fire Department in 1983. He also had a side television repair service. Paul loved his garden and spent many days enjoying planting and raising his crops. His devotion was to his family, whom he loved unconditionally.
Paul was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, his parents, his granddaughter, Michelle Phillips, and his grandson, Chadwick Davis.
He is survived by his six children, Sandra Rowell (Jerry) of Indian Trail, Myra Davis (Dexter) of Mebane, Renee Rodgers of Mineral Springs, Brenda Springs (Gordon), Edward King (Terri), and Gail Burris (Aaron), all of Monroe. He was the loving grandfather of eleven grandchildren, Stephanie Britt of Leland, Jennifer Rowell of Indian Trail, Danny Davis (Michelle) of Danbury, Connecticut, David Laney, Jr. (Jackie) of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Matthew Rodgers of Mineral Springs, Amber Helms (Brian), Jeannie Sawyer (Brandon), Ashlyne Anderson (Phil), Chandler Burris, Caleb King, and Hunter King, all of Monroe; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Lloyd King of Monroe, Clarence King (Doris) of Indian Trail, and Louis King (Carol) of Chester, South Carolina.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 27, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will immediately follow in Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe.
