Mae was born November 4, 1930 in Raleigh, NC, the youngest of four children. Mabel (Mae) Grigg Johnson moved to Charlotte, NC as a young girl and then settled in Monroe, NC to be closer to one of her daughter Lyn and grandchildren. She was a graduate of Tech High School, class of 1949. Mae worked as a waitress and became a stay-at-home mom. Most recently, Mae was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Mae was preceded in death by her mother, Mamie Ida Johnson; her sister, Ailene Albrect, her brothers Gervis and Brady Johnson and her husband, Carl W. (Bill) Dulin.
Mae is survived by her daughters Lyn Courtney and husband Mike; Carolyn Rockett-Gossett and her husband Joey; her son Jim Dulin and wife Terri; her grandchildren Ronnie, Josh and Alex; her great grandchildren Jesse and Courtney, her great-great grandchild Isabella; and her cat Gracie.
Mae was a warm, caring and generous person; a friend to those with two legs and four, a long-time contributor to the Billy Graham Evangelical Association and the Humane Society of Union County. Mae was a gifted landscape painter using water colors. She enjoyed trips to the beach, many times painting the boats, ocean, sunsets, and lighthouses she saw. She was an avid swimmer for most of her life and a member of the Monroe Aquatic Center. She also enjoyed reading, cross-stitch, and her daily Sudoku puzzle. Mae was a devoted mother and grandmother and was selfless when it came to her family, always putting others before her. Mae enjoyed keeping her home in the best of shape and working in her yard.
A Funeral service for Mae will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018 at McEwen Funeral Home, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd., Charlotte, NC 28227 with visitation beginning at 10 AM and the funeral at 11 AM. Burial will continue afterwards at Evergreen Burial Park.
