Laura Eloise Ensor Hendrix, 88, of Charlotte, NC, passed away January 28, 2014. Mrs. Hendrix was born in New Boston, OH, February 18, 1925, the third of eight children of George Ellsworth Ensor and Flora E. Fannin Ensor.
While a resident of South Shore, KY, the young Miss Ensor decided to join the Navy in September 1943. While stationed in San Pedro, CA, she met a Marine, Jack Edward Hendrix. They married on May 6, 1944, a union that lasted 69 years. After she left the Navy, Mrs. Hendrix worked for the Department of Treasury in Washington, DC, before becoming a housewife and raising three children. In 1956, the family moved to Charlotte, NC.
Mrs. Hendrix was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Vernon Ensor, Vollin Ensor and James Ensor; and one sister, Eleanor Ensor Bryant.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Kurtis Ensor Hendrix (Susan) of Wingate, NC, and Roger Clayton Hendrix (Karen) of Charlotte, NC; one daughter, Jackie Hendrix Rogers (Ivan) of Wingate, NC; and three sisters, Gaynel Ensor Rashen of Fairborn, OH, Mary Ensor Hobson of South Shore, KY, and Edna Ensor Warnock also of South Shore, KY. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2014, at Arlington Baptist Church, 9801 Arlington Church Road in Charlotte, with a funeral service immediately following at 2:30 p.m. Pastor Steve Gandy will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
