Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Hampton; his parents, Albert S. and Laura Hampton; his sister, Faye H. Suddith; a son, Larry A. Hampton, Jr. (Butch); and by his first wife, Jewel (Judy) Hampton.
He is survived by five of his children, Velvet (Jeff) Mills, James (Darcel) Mullins, Tiffany (Jeff) Reid, Tim (Cherie) Hampton, and Michael (Alana) Mullins. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Larry was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. For his service, he earned an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for Vietnam and A Good Conduct Medal Award. He served honorably in the Navy on the U.S.S. Monticello from 1961-1965.
Larry retired from Carolina Time Equipment of Charlotte, North Carolina and moved to the beach. He was a huge animal lover and always had pets. He enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels from his living room window.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2022, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill, with his funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill with military funeral honors.
