Karen Pauline Canupp

Karen P. Canupp was born on October 4, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan and passed away on October 22, 2017 in Charlotte, North Carolina, after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. She was cherished by her family and will be greatly missed.

Karen and her husband Carl, to whom she was married for fifty-six years, raised three wonderful and adoring children, Rick, Cindi, and Dave. She was a light in each of their lives and she delighted in watching each of them raise their own children and grandchildren.

Karen was a proud employee of American Greetings for more than thirty-two years. In more recent years, Karen became passionate about travel and she was able to take numerous bucket-list trips with family, both in the USA and abroad, and fulfill a lifelong desire for adventure. Some of her favorite times were spent playing the odds at slot machines on cruise ships and in casinos from Vegas to Cherokee.

Karen is preceded in death by her father, Keith Philippi of Beulah, MI; her mother, Pauline Persing, of Frankfort, MI; and her sister, Sue Trillo of Clearwater, FL.

She is survived by her husband, Carl; son Rick Canupp, his wife Elena, their two sons, Tim and Kevin and Tim’s son Liam, who is Karen’s first great grandchild; daughter Cindi McDowell, her husband Tom, their four children Ashli, Chris, Nicholas and Elizabeth and Ashli’s husband Joe and their son Bennett, who is Karen’s second great grandchild; and son Dave Canupp, his wife Ashley and their sons Jeffrey and Riley. Grandsons, Chris and Kevin, both serve in the Army and are currently deployed to Afghanistan.

Karen loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren with all her heart and, in recent years, has enjoyed spending time with the next generation of grandchildren, young twins Jeffrey and Riley, as well as her great grandchildren, Bennett and Liam.

Family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, October 26 from 6 pm to 8 pm at McEwen Funeral Home, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC. A private burial will take place at Sunset Memory Gardens.
