John is survived by his wife, Sharon Montgomery of Mint Hill, NC, his sister, Susan Williamson and her husband Jimmy from Texas, his brother, Dennis Gooch and his wife Mary Kay from West Virginia along with uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends who were very dear to him.
John was predeceased by his parents, Charles & Alice Montgomery, his sisters Mary Jane Pizzaferrato, Juanita O’Neal, Ida May Gaydos and his brothers, William Montgomery, Charles R. Montgomery and Calvin Glover.
John was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Charles O. Montgomery and Alice M. Montgomery (Glover) in October, 1943 and was raised in Steubenville, OH. After high school, he entered the U. S. Marine Corps. He was very proud of his service and was honored to serve his country.
John had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed telling jokes. At gatherings, he and other guys would sit in a circle, jokes would be flying and everyone would be laughing until their sides hurt. He was an avid golfer and was happiest when he was out on the golf course with his friends. He was very proud of the day he got his first hole-in-one. He enjoyed photography and was always taking pictures on trips and at gatherings with friends and family. He loved music and had an extensive collection of record albums. It was not unusual for him to sit back and listen to music for hours at a time.
He had a big heart and never hesitated to offer assistance to anyone in need. Friends and family could always count on him when they were having difficult times.
John was an amazing husband; my best friend and I will forever love and miss him.
In lieu of flowers and his memory, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
