James “Woody” Hayward Moore, 83, of Matthews, North Carolina, went home to Heaven on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. He was born on October 14 ,1938 to the late Fred and Artha Kate Moore and graduated from Marshville High School. While there, he met the love of his life, Judy Leonard. They were married for 63 years.
After high school, Woody worked for several companies and eventually went to work for International Harvester. He retired from International Harvester after 24 years and started his own company, Truckers Parts, which he and Judy ran for 11 years.
Woody’s life was full. He loved to camp, square dance, go out to eat with friends, and play cards. He was a scout leader at one time. He loved old westerns and John Wayne was his “hero.” But most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Woody was an active member of Mount Harmony Baptist Church for over 50 years. He and Judy were founding members of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. They also worked with the Good Timers. Woody was proud to serve as a deacon of the church.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Moore; his son, Kendall Moore (Julie); his daughter, Karla Russell (Bill); his grandchildren, Casey Harper (Clay), Haley Jennings (Ryan), Megan Knox (Mitchell), Jake Russell, and Sami Russell; his greatgrandchildren, Decker Harper and Summer Harper; his two sisters, Renee Wright and Gayle Griffin (David), and extended family.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 21, 2022 in the sanctuary of Mount Harmony Baptist Church, 2817 Mt Harmony Church Rd, Matthews, NC. Services will follow at 11:00 am and burial will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mount Harmony Baptist Church. The Moore family is in the care of McEwen Funeral Home in Mint Hill.
