Born in Kannapolis, Cabarrus County, NC on Sept. 14, 1938, he was a son of the late Fred Alfred and Roxie Mae Haynes Adams.
A graduate of A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, he obtained an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from C.P.C.C. and numerous other job related accreditations.
He was a member of the McLean Road Baptist Church and a charter member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9. He was the first recipient of the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for volunteer service with the Charlotte Police Reserves and was the NCIAI award winning photographer in 1971 and 1972.
He retired from the Charlotte Police Department with 30 years service in the crime lab and bomb squad departments. He also served 15 years with the Charlotte Police Reserves, 17 years with Matthews Police department and retired from Sears Department Store at Eastland Mall as head of security.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Marie Pate Adams of Mint Hill. They were married April 26, 1958. A daughter, Lisa Dean Adams of Mint Hill; and two sons, Hubert James “Jamie” Adams, Jr. and his wife Tonya, of Jamestown, NC along with their children, Christopher, Charles, Kevin, Julianna and Megan. Jonathan Pate Adams and Jen Kopczynski of Stafford, VA and his children, Cathryn, and Anna.
A brother, Ralph Adams and sisters, Claudine Bostian and Willie Mae Broadway also survive along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Receiving of friends will be on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the McEwen Mint Hill Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. Ron Helms officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
