“Maw Maw”
The gates of heaven opened for Gleeneta Moffitt Cobb on August 7, 2014, at Clear Creek Nursing Facility, as her loving son, Jim, held her hand. She was welcomed at the gates by her husband, Edward, her son, Eddie and her daughter, Debbie, who all preceded her in death, as well as her brothers, sister and parents.
She was born in Newton, NC, the daughter of W.R. “Chick” and Essie Mae Moffitt. Early in her married life she worked at Pelton and Crane. She then became a military wife and homemaker as she and her family traveled the world during Edward’s time in the Army and Air Force. She often had to be both mom and dad to her family as Edward fought in Korea and twice in Vietnam.
She is survived by her son, James G. Cobb and wife, Lana; daughter-in-law, Tonya; granddaughters, Christina Dyck and husband, Kurt, Julia Rutledge and Haley Cobb; grandson, Alan Cobb; great-granddaughters, Jacquelyn and Ella Joye.
MawMaw’s greatest joy was her family and her love for them. Each of us will remember her wonderful meals and, most of all, her spirit and strength. She was one of the strongest women we were privileged to know and love.
The family will receive friends from 3-4:30 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2014 at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, with the service immediately following in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, Please make donations in her honor to Pat’s Place, 901 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all the staff that loved on MawMaw for several years at Brookdale, Wilora Lake. Our hearts will always be grateful to the loving, caring staff at Clear Creek Nursing Facility who provided care for her during this last battle with cancer.
Arrangements under the direction of McEwen Funeral Service - Mint Hill Chapel, Mint Hill, NC.
