

Eleanor Terry Bacon, of Matthews, NC, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015, at Sardis Oaks. She was 94 years old. Born July 26, 1921 in Lumberton, NC, she was a daughter of the late John Monroe Terry and Emily Blanton Terry.
Mrs. Bacon was a former owner of Three Petals Flower and Gift Shop in Charleston, SC. While in Charleston, she enjoyed providing arts and crafts at the Florence Crittenton Home for unwed mothers, and provided bud vases at area nursing homes for special occasions. She also enjoyed supporting “Feed the Children.” Mrs. Bacon was formerly employed with Roseland Floral Company, Todd’s, Fruit Basket and Avery’s Flowers. She was a member of Central Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bacon was preceded in death by her husbands, William Joseph McGinnis and Mack Hansell Bacon, a son, William Joseph McGinnis, Jr., a sister, Bernice Hambright, and her brother, Jack Terry.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn McGinnis Bailey of Matthews; two sons, Terry Hansell Bacon and wife, Anne, of Summerville, SC, and Stephen Waddie Bacon and wife, Cecelia, of Cecil, GA; her sister, Betty Taylor of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Carey Wayne Casey and wife, Susan, of Huntsville, AL, and Kendall Bacon of Greenville, SC; and three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. Saturday at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 6, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
