Dr. Herman Watson “Buddy” Pigg, Jr., age 66, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away February 28, 2021. He beat COVID and Pneumonia as a Diabetic Type 1 and was a Kidney Transplant patient. In the end, his heart could not handle anymore.
Born September 4, 1954, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Buddy was a son of Jean and the late Herman W. Pigg, Sr. He graduated from Garinger High School, Carolina School of Broadcasting and Wingate University. Buddy received his doctorate from Luther Rice Seminary. He was married to Candace R. Pigg on May 28, 1977.
Buddy announced races at Shuffletown Dragstrip in his spare time. He also worked at various radio stations, but his favorite was Big WAYS in Charlotte. Then, he was called to the ministry in 1975. Buddy pastored Cedar Grove Baptist Church, North Wadesboro Baptist Church, Lawings Chapel Baptist Church, and spent 31 years at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. He was a Chaplain for the NHRA, enjoyed studying history, and constantly studied theology.
Buddy is survived by his wife, Candy; and two children, April Newell and her husband, David, and Andrew Pigg; four grandchildren, Jonah, Eli, Addyson, and Sophie; mother, Jean Pigg; sister, Nancy Threatt and husband, Ed; brother, Darrel Pigg; and niece, Cari Stackpole.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00pm Saturday, March 6, at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church Family Life Center in Matthews, North Carolina. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. The service will be livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page.
