Dorothy Jean Hipp “Dot” Davis, of Unionville, North Carolina, formerly of Matthews, North Carolina and Pageland, South Carolina, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Hospice of Union County. She was 89 years old.
Born June 30, 1932, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Dot was a daughter of the late Charles William Hipp and Edith Coward Hipp. She attended high school and nursing school in Charlotte. Dot was devoted to her children and large family. She was always willing to help anyone in need. Dot will be remembered as an excellent cook and baker and for her kindness and her love for working puzzles.
Dot and Cliff were married for 58 years and were inseparable. They built numerous houses together in North Carolina and South Carolina where family and friends were always welcomed.
In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her step-mother, Ada Hipp; her sister, Patricia Channell; and her brother, David Hipp.
Surviving are her loving and devoted husband, John Clifford “Cliff” Davis; her children, Barbara Wallace and husband, Jim, of Williamsburg, Virginia, Cindy Martin and husband, Ed, of Thomasville, North Carolina, Jimmy Faires and wife, Dawn, of Ansonville, North Carolina, Steve Faires and wife, Sally, of Midland, North Carolina, John Davis of Atlanta, Georgia, Scott Davis of Charlotte, North Carolina and Kym Gentle and husband, Gary, of Cornelius, North Carolina; and her sister, Sue Smith of Cherryville, North Carolina. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her 13 grandchildren, Leslie Helms, Jimmy Wallace, Nick Martin, Jillian Herrmann, Britt Williams, J.T. Faires, Katie Faires, Jake Faires, Greg Davis, Beth Davis, Josh Davis, Natalie Gentle and Addi Gentle; and ten great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful for the kindness and care by the staff at Hospice of Union County.
A graveside service to celebrate Dot’s life will be held 2:00pm Friday, July 23, 2021, at Sunset Memory Gardens 8901 Lawyers Road Mint Hill, North Carolina 28227.
