David Wright Stewart, age 79, of Charlotte NC, passed away peacefully on February 4th, 2020 at Lake Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Indian Trail NC, following an accidental injury on December 6th 2019. He was born September 30th,1940 in High Point NC.
David served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963. After his time in the Army, he owned and operated 2 restaurants and then married Barbara Sue Wallace in 1968. David graduated from CPCC with an associates degree in 1971 and David Jr. was born in 1972. He joined Duke Energy in 1974 and worked in computer science until he retired in 1997. After retirement, he continued work as a consultant for local businesses for several years.
David was an avid clock collector, computer enthusiast, woodworker and hobbyist machinist. He also enjoyed billiards and sailing. David spent a lot of his time in retirement caring for his parents Marcella Wright and Hervy Yates of Denton, NC. He found pride and joy in his 4 grandchildren’s accomplishments. David was also an active member at his local YMCA for more than 20 years.
David lost his biological father James Stewart at the age of 7. He was pre-deceased by his mother Marcella Wright Yates, and beloved step-father Hervy F. Yates. David is survived by his son, David Wright Jr. and daughter-in-law Amy Stewart and his 4 grandchildren, William, Andrew, Jonathan and Henry Wright Stewart. Also surviving him are his brother, James C. Stewart Sr. of High Point NC, his nephew, James Carl Stewart Jr. and his ex-wife Barbara W. Stewart of Denton, NC, with whom he remained close friends.
