Daniel Lee Griffin (Dan), 47, of Matthews, left his family suddenly on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center. He was born August 13, 1971 in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Floyd Ellis Griffin, Jr. and Ruth Lane Griffin Turton.
Dan grew up in Charlotte and was a graduate of Olympic High School and attended Lees-McRae College and Appalachian State University.
Dan spent his entire career in the plumbing distribution industry. He was the warehouse manager for RepSouth, Inc., due to celebrate his 25th anniversary this month. They were family to him.
Dan is survived by his mother, Ruth Turton; his partner of 14 years, Tracy Rybicki; his children, Maya Rybicki-Griffin and Chase Rybicki-Griffin; his sister, Angela Griffin Hester; brother-in-law, Jeff Hester; his Rybicki family - Donna, Christopher, and Cayden; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is predeceased by his grandparents, Floyd Ellis Griffin, Claudia Griffin, Crawford Lane, and Bernice Lane; and his stepfather, Andy Turton.
Dan was a devoted father, partner, son, brother and friend. He had a tight circle of friends whom he had known most of his life. He was an avid sports fan and deeply loyal to his Duke Blue Devils and Dallas Cowboys. Dan loved animals and even named his yellow lab, Dallas. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word. He and his loving personality will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 5th, 2018, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to an established donation fund for Dan’s children. Checks can be made to The Children of Dan Griffin Benefit Fund and can be deposited at any Wells Fargo Bank location or mailed to 125 West Tremont Avenue, #402, Charlotte, NC 28203. Nothing meant more to Dan than his children.
