Barbara P. Banister

Barbara Patterson Banister passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017. She was born in Buncombe County, NC to the late Cecil Forest Patterson and Annie Mae Westall Patterson. She grew up in Asheville, NC where she met and married R. Jack Banister in 1950. They were married 36 years until his death in 1986. They Lived in Charlotte twice, once in 1961-1963 and back in 1967 until death. She was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Barbara enjoyed making new friends and traveling with them. She was an avid reader, loved flowers and gardening, feeding and checking different birds at her feeders, music and “singing” in her church choirs.

She enjoyed many activities: her Bridge Club, Mint Hill Women’s Club, being a Docent at the Mint Hill Historical Village, volunteering for Loaves and Fishes, and Sunday School at the Brian Center each Sunday Morning. Barbara was proud to be a member of the Clear Creek Chapter of DAR

But her greatest love were her children. She is survived by her four daughters, Susan B. Thomasson (Carl), Pamela B. Broadstone (Paul), Jacquelyn B. Kemenczky (Joe), and Kimberlee B. Avant (Don); ten grandchildren, Andrew Thomasson (Cheryl) of Kings Mountain, NC, Michael Thomasson, Charlotte, NC, Erin Kemenczky of Monroe, NC, Kyle Kemenczky (Kristen) of Monroe, NC, Catherine B. Chorney (Matt) of Canada, Lauren B. Marsh (Chris) of Bluffton, SC, Peter Broadstone of Chattanooga, TN, Zachery Avant, Gabriel Avant and Ashlee Avant all of Charlotte; two great grandchildren, Malia Caroline Thomasson of Kings Mtn., NC and Cooper James Avant of Midland, NC; sister-in-laws, Virginia Patterson Puyallup of Washington, Frances Banister Robertson (G.R.) of Asheville, NC, Barbara Banister Fowler (Ross) of Asheville, NC, Nell B. Scruggs (Bill) of West Lake Village, CA; and brother-in-law, Frank Banister (Nola) and Robert Banister and a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends,

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 7:00pm until 8:30pm at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 4855 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC 28205. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 10:00am at the church. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory in Asheville, NC.

The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Loaves and Fishes or to Eastern Hills Baptist Church.
