Alton Eugene Grayson

Alton was born October 6, 1940 to Wanna Tompkins Grayson and Alton Atwood Grayson. He was preceded in death by both parents, and sisters, Judy Tiller and Joyce Hartsell.

Alton was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his “sweetheart” and loving wife of 40 years, Kathy; a son, Brent and his wife, Rebecca Grayson, of Fort Mill, SC, and children, Amber and her husband, Lance Matzke, and their son, Aiden, of Indian Trail, NC, Amanda, Ashley and Reid; a daughter, Allison and her husband, Geoff Playford, of Charlotte, NC, and children, Morgan and her husband, Jeff Rockett, and their daughter, Kylie, of Charlotte, NC, and Meredith Plyler and her fiancé, Phillip Hladun, of Mint Hill, NC; a daughter, Dawn Scales and her children, Brian, Brandon and Brittany of Concord, NC; and son, Paul Grayson.

Other survivors include his sisters, Brenda and husband, Richard Ferree, of Williamsburg, VA and Barbara Seay of North Augusta, SC; and his brother, Clifford and his wife, Jean Grayson, of Mint Hill, NC.

Alton was a gentle, kind, sweet and caring man. He devoted himself to helping others. He truly had a servant’s heart. He loved his Lord and Savior, and cherished Psalms 23.

Alton was a faithful member of Blair Road United Methodist Church for 37 years. He worked with Southern Bell for 31 years. Alton was also a member of Mint Hill Masonic Lodge #742, Hornets’ Nest Car Club, and the National AACA.

His family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 25, at Blair Road United Methodist Church, 9135 Blair Road in Charlotte, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment, with Masonic Rites, will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
