The family of Glenda Mae Burrows, 79, of Mounds View, Minnesota, would like to announce her passing on April 14, 2024. Just 3 weeks shy of her birthday goal of 80, Glenda left us soon after being diagnosed with small cell lung cancer.
She was born on May 7, 1944 to LeRoy and Florence (Knese) Victor, in St. Cloud, Minnesota. In September of 1962, she married Norman Burrows, the man she would spend her life with, until Norm’s passing in 2009. Together, they grew their family, welcoming Scott (1963), Kelly (1964) and Kerri (1966). In 1985, a different opportunity came her way, as she became a Dairy Queen operator. Which soon became a family partnership with Kerri joining her. Together, for almost 39 years, they could be found serving smiles at the George Street Dairy Queen, followed by a move to the Northdale Dairy Queen. Even though she had stepped away from ownership, she could still be found stopping in to help out when needed.
Glenda was a special person, with a heart that seemed to have an infinite capacity to grow and make room for those around her and her family. Even years later, it wasn’t unusual to stop in and find those she’d “adopted” visiting her just to say hi.
She enjoyed her gardening, always playing with something new and rearranging the old. She loved going on her road trips with friends, exploring new places, getting lost on back roads, impromptu stops at small shops, and maybe a casino visit or two. In between, she could be found reading about many varied things. Along with family, her faith and the Catholic Church had always been an important part of her life. As a teenager, she contemplated becoming a nun. Later, after Norm’s death, she found the time to once again grow in her faith, as she volunteered and prayed at St. John’s.
Glenda was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Wayne and Dale; and her husband Norman. She is survived by her children Scott (Wendy), Kelly (Jeanne) and Kerri (Darin) Luoma; grandchildren Brandon, Connor (Emily), Kelsen (Nicole), Taliesen (Amanda), Jamae (Kevin), Megan (Mason), Casey (Jessica) and Makenzie (Tyler); great grandchildren Alex, Kaylynn, Leo, Keira and Ridley; along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, 4/26, from 9:00-10:15 am at St. John the Baptist Church, 835 2nd Ave NW, New Brighton. Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10:30 am. Interment at 1:30 pm, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cemetery, 2250 St. Anthony Blvd NE, Minneapolis.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider a donation to St. John the Baptist Church, where Mom had attended for 55 years, or really to any charity or cause that you believe in. Thank you!
