Lost his battle to prostate cancer on Thursday, November 23, 2017. His devotion to family and friends and his trust in God strengthened him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Don was known for his love of family, his sense of humor, and his service to others. He was the Coordinator of Milestones for the Retiree Guardian and a longtime member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Don worked as a Director and Project Manager for 36 years with Northwestern Bell, later US West. However, his most special chievement was his family. Don was a devoted husband for 54 years to wife, Kay. He was the loving and proud father to his children: Mike (Elizabeth) Kelly, Joe (Michele) Kelly, Deb Kelly, and Dan Kelly; grandsons, Brennan, Sean, Kieran, Dylan, and Aidan. Don is also survived by beloved sister, Joan (Vern) Baldus; brother, Larry (Jose) Kelly; brother-in-law, Larry (Mary Ann) Sweeney; and many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Mildred, and brother-in-law, Pat Sweeney. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Nov. 30 at 11am with visitation one hour prior at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 7025 Halifax Ave N, Brooklyn Center, MN 55429. Inurnment at a later date at Sunset Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society of MN.
