Preceded in death by her husband, Roy, and son, Mark. Arline planned her days around her husband, children, grandchildren, parents, and siblings and was proud of her career as an intensive care nurse at Unity Hospital. She freely gave her love and her time—making many gifts for others by quilting, knitting, sewing, baking (especially lefsa and other Norwegian treats); she enjoyed playing cards and board games and engaging in wonderful conversations, often about whatever curious thing she had recently read. She was always reading.
Arline grew up on a farm near Clearbrook. After graduating second in her high school class, she worked as a waitress in Minneapolis to pay for Fairview Nursing School, from which she graduated as a registered nurse. While looking for a way to drive home to Clearbook, she met Roy, who was also living in Minneapolis and from a farm near Clearbrook. He said he immediately fell for her brown eyes and apple pies. They married in 1954, had homes in Great Falls, Montana, Minneapolis, and Columbia Heights, where they raised 4 children. Arline and Roy were great friends and companions for over 50 years; they both loved to travel and took many road trips.
We will treasure Arline’s memory always. She is survived by family and friends, her three children and their spouses, Dale (Jill), Diane, and Wayne (Juli), her daughter-in-law Pam (Mark), her former son-in-law David Bolt; 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren; her sister, Donna Vig (James), and her sisters-in-law, whom her brothers had the good sense to marry—Elaine Knutson (Norton) and Donna Knutson (Harlan).
The family will hold a memorial service on Monday, January 22, 2024 at 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 1555 - 40th Ave NE, Columbia Heights, MN 55421. Visitation will be 1 hour before the service from 12 - 1 p.m. Refreshments to follow at the church. Interment is the following day at Sunset Cemetery, Minneapolis.
