On December 18, 2017 Tommie Lee Thompson, Sr., age 90, passed peacefully into eternity with his Heavenly Father. He was born on August 4, 1927 to Willie Gaston Thompson and Willie Cordell Shirley Thompson in Covington County, Alabama. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he returned to his home in Alabama. He later moved his family to Pace, Florida and began work at the Monsanto Co. from which he retired after 30 plus years. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and served on the Board of Deacons and sang in the church choir in his active years. He enjoyed camping trips with his family, growing a garden, music, and more than anything he loved having his family gathered around him. He was a loving father, devoted husband and adoring grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mildred Thompson, and his son, Robert Mitchell Thompson. He is survived by his son Tommie L. (Pauline) Thompson of Pace, FL, two daughters: Cynthia (Mark) Hicks of Pace, FL, and Patty (Jimmy) Lay of Navarre, FL, four granddaughters: Stephanny Thompson Harrell, Mandee Thompson Black, Whitney Lay Cutler, Chloe Hicks, four great grandchildren, Alexia Gardner, Jasmine Fox, Aidan and Nya Dean, five sisters: Frances Prater and Shirley Ellison of Opp, AL, Estelle Ward, Voncille Tidwell, and Joan Gwynne of Dothan, AL, and a brother Gene Thompson of Phenix City, AL, and many nieces and nephews.
The Family will receive friends at National Cremation and Burial Society in Milton, FL on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 1 pm – 2 p.m. Service will be at 2 p.m.
