Herbert L. Bullard was born on July 7, 1928 to parents Dotney Lucindy and Claud DeBriton Bullard in the small town of Verbena, Alabama. He was the youngest son and the next to youngest of ten children. He loved his “Momsie.”
He was a World War II Veteran having served his country as a Medic with the U.S. Navy.
He studied at Alabama, Auburn (then known as Alabama Polytechnic Institute), Kent State and Akron Universities. He and his wife to be, Catherine Pipkin, were College sweethearts during their years at Auburn. On May 24, 1952, the Epsilon Alpha Chapter of Delta Tau Delta was created. Herbert was among the five first founding Fathers of and for this Auburn Chapter.
Herbert worked for Goodyear Atomic and as a Research Chemist, and Inventor, for Goodyear in Akron, Ohio for 33 years. He is responsible for multiple different U.S. patents from the years 1975 - 1988, including his work with Hydrocarbon-derived resins which are particularly useful for the preparation of pressure sensitive adhesives (aka “bandaids”).
Among the many attributes throughout his life, he was a Mason, a Boy Scout Leader, a Barbershop Quartet Singer, a Designer of Fashions for his wife, a Church Choir Director, a Church Deacon, an Airplane Pilot, an Artist, and a Sunday School Teacher of many years at First Baptist Church in Milton, Florida.
He was A Husband, a Father and a Grandfather. He was a Humble Man who loved his Lord, his Church, and his Family. Whenever he was needed, he was always there without hesitation.
Herbert is preceded in death by both parents and all but one of his remaining siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Catherine Louise Pipkin Bullard, his son, Brian K. Bullard and wife, Karla Bullard of Oxford, Alabama, Granddaughter Ashley K. Peek (wife of Phillip Peek) and his only remaining sibling, Levis Barton of Birmingham, Alabama.
Herbert L. Bullard was 90 years Loved and forever a part of our hearts.
