James William Ashton, Jr.

James William Ashton, Jr., (known to his friends as "Horse") age 78 of Reserve Township , passed away unexpectedly surrounded by his family, on Monday, October 14, 2019. Beloved husband of 59 years to Ruthann (Pfab) Ashton; devoted father of Lynn McBee and her husband Orval of Reserve Township and James W. Ashton, III and his wife Cindi of Allison Park; proud Pap of Dawn Whitehead Bechtold (Steve), Rachelle Ashton, Jennifer Ashton (Chuck), Miranda Ashton Wild (Chris), Wayne McBee, Michael Ashton, Thomas Ashton and his step-grandchild, Heidi Hall; great-Pap of Jacob, Brian, Dominic, Abigail, Melanie, Evelyn and Matthew; brother of Robert Ashton (Julia) of California, Jane Conley (the late Thomas) of Valencia and David Ashton (Shari) of Shaler Township. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jim grew up in the Millvale area and attended St. Nicholas Grade School and later graduated from Millvale High School. He worked as a roofer for Pennsylvania Roofing over 50 years. Jim was a man who loved involvement in his community. His memberships span from the Spring Garden Sportsmen Club, the Elks, Cranberry Lodge #2240, Breakneck Beagle Club, the Scottish Rite, the Masons Corinthian Lodge #573 F & AM and the Roofers Local 37.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to golf, hunt and fish. You could often find him watching a John Wayne or classic Western Movie. His family thanks him for his dynamic devotion to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. People will always remember his generosity.

Family will be receiving friends on Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 6 until 8 pm and on Friday, October 18, 2019 from 2 until 8 pm at the Healy-Hahn Funeral Home, Inc., 512 Grant Ave., Millvale, (412-821-2940), where a funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Allegheny County Memorial Park, Allison Park. Family suggests memorials to Curesearch in hopes of assisting all children who are facing the diagnosis of cancer.
