Sandra Joyce (Evans) Kratina, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at the age of 92. Born at John T. Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, Sandra spent her formative years in Suassa Park, Port Jefferson, and graduated from Earl Vandermeulen High School with the Class of 1950.
Sandra met the love of her life, John "Jack" Thomas Kratina, during high school, and their story blossomed into a lifelong partnership. The two married on August 18, 1952, beginning an extraordinary journey together that spanned 72 years. After Jack’s service in the Marines, they moved back to Miller Place in 1954, where they made their home and raised their family.
Sandra is survived by her devoted husband, Jack, and their three children: Karen Prechtl (Gary), Jeffrey Kratina, and Pamela Schwamb (Michael, and former husband Bill). She was a proud grandmother to James Prechtl (Melissa), Daniel Prechtl (Joanna), and Thomas Prechtl (Kathleen), as well as a loving great-grandmother to Addison, Aiden, Emma, Jack, and Finn.
Sandra was the cherished daughter of John D. and Alice (née Burr) Evans and the dear sister of John D. Evans Jr. (predeceased) and his wife, Joan. She shared close bonds with her siblings by marriage: Edith Franza (Willie, both predeceased), James D. Kratina (Jeanne, both predeceased), Elaine Bailey (Jimmy), and Carol Zachmann (Robert). Sandra was also a proud aunt to 10 nieces and nephews, whose lives she enriched with love and laughter.
Sandra's life was filled with passions that reflected her vibrant personality. She had a deep appreciation for antiques, collectibles, and miniatures, and her enthusiasm for all things Christmas was unmatched. She found beauty in the unique and treasured anything with a "coat of dust," always delighting in the stories behind the objects she collected.
Sandra valued relationships deeply, whether with family or friends. Her bonds from youth and high school remained steadfast throughout her life. She nurtured lifelong friendships and created a circle of love and camaraderie that spanned generations. Her gracious spirit and warm heart endeared her to everyone she met.
Sandra's legacy can be summed up in two simple words: Gracious Lady. She will be remembered for her kindness, elegance, and unwavering love for her family and friends.
