Roy Edward Acer, age 80, of Ridge, New York, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2024. A devoted family man, Roy leaves behind a loving family that includes his beloved wife, Brigitte, his son, Daniel Acer, and his daughter, Yvonne Leippert. He was a proud grandfather to Marissa Acer, Quinn Leippert, Alexa Leippert, Jaret Acer, Gianna Leippert, Gabrielle Acer, and Allison Acer.
Though Roy served his country with honor as a Vietnam War veteran in the U.S. Army, and later had a distinguished career as a police officer with both the NYPD and the Suffolk County Police Department, his favorite role in life was as a grandfather. In his retirement, he relished spending time with his grandchildren, always putting his family first.
Roy shared many adventures with his beloved wife, Brigitte, traveling the world to places like Egypt and China, creating memories of a lifetime. He was also a man of simple pleasures—he loved the music of the 1950s and surprisingly became a devoted fan of daily soap operas in his later years. Having lived in Centereach and Eastport, Roy eventually retired to Leisure Glen in Ridge, where he cherished the sense of community and the joy of no longer having to cut the grass.
A memorial visitation will be held in his honor on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, located at 1001 Route 25A, Miller Place, NY 11764. A prayer service will follow at 12:00 PM at the same location. Later, a military funeral honors and committal service will take place at 1:00 PM at Calverton National Cemetery, Wading River, NY.
Roy will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering dedication to his family, and his zest for life.
