Kevin Edward O’Brien, a veteran of the Vietnam War, longtime resident of Port Jefferson Station, passed away on May 28, 2023 surrounded by his adoring family. Kevin was born October 20, 1944 to the late Maurice O’Brien and Jeanne (Kehoe) O’Brien in Brooklyn, NY and was the middle of three sons. Kevin was preceded in death by his brothers Dennis O’Brien and Terence O’Brien.
Kevin attended Wingate High School before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. As a Lance Corporal, he was stationed in Camp Lejeune and served a 14-month tour of duty in Chu Lai, Vietnam in the helicopter division. Kevin was honored to serve his country.
After his service, Kevin returned home where he met and married Mary Louise (Porzio) O’Brien on January 18, 1969. By trade, Kevin was a sheet metal worker with Local 28 and enjoyed spending his free time woodworking, going to the movies, putzing around his garage and yard as well as tracing his genealogy. Kevin was well-read and loved traveling the world with his partner in crime, Mary. Their favorite trip together was an African Safari which he shared stories about often. Kevin was known to be a kind and helpful uncle, friend, cousin and neighbor. He was intellectually curious and believed passionately about equality for all people.
Kevin was a very proud family man. The loving husband of Mary. Kevin is survived by his three children and two daughter-in-laws, Tara Anne O’Brien, Christopher Kevin O’Brien (Jennifer) and Sean Patrick O’Brien (Morgan). His beloved grandchildren, Colin Perry O’Brien, Addyson Quinn O’Brien, Kate Morgan O’Brien and granddogs, Lulu, Gatsby and Watson.
Please join us for a celebration of his life on Sunday, June 4, 2023 from 4-pm-8pm at O.B. Davis Funeral Home in Miller Place, NY and at 11am on Monday, June 5, 2023 for a military service at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY.
