Irene Shanahan

Irene worked as a receptionist at Miller Place School District, where she touched many lives with her warmth and kindness. As a passionate reader and an enthusiastic cook, Irene enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, often sharing her love of books and home-cooked meals with her family.

Irene's greatest joy came from her family. Irene was a devoted wife to her loving husband, Dennis, with whom she shared many beautiful memories over the years. Together, they built a warm and loving home filled with love and laughter. Irene was also a proud mother to Christine (Andrew) and Dennis (Cheryl), and a cherished grandmother to Caitlin, MacKenzie, Hannah, and Molly.

In addition to her immediate family, Irene had a special place in her heart for her nieces Denise Porricelli and Jessica Leahy, as well as her great-niece Brielle and great-nephews Michael and Jameson. She was also dearly loved by her sister, Barbara (the late Jeffery), and daughter-in-law Sherin Shanahan.

She was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Katherine, and will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. Irene's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A visitation will be held at O. B. Davis Funeral Homes, located at 1001 Route 25a, Miller Place, NY 11764. A visitation will will occur Tuesday, December 10, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A prayer service will take place at the same venue on the same day from 8:00 PM-8:30 PM. The committal service will be held at Calverton National Cemetery, Wading River, Wading River, NY 11792, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
