Geoffrey T. Snyder, 80, of Baiting Hollow, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024, surrounded by the love of his cherished family.
Geoffrey leaves behind his devoted wife, Doreen, with whom he shared 55 years of love, partnership, and laughter. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised two children: Jennifer (Donald Golding) and Tim (Susan Snyder). Geoff’s proudest joy was his grandchildren, Cameron and Brady Golding and Evie and Austin Snyder, who affectionately knew him as "Pa." His family was his greatest treasure, and nothing made him happier than their presence and accomplishments.
Geoff was predeceased by his older brother Jack, a steadfast guide, and his twin Jim, a lifelong mirror of his soul.
A dedicated educator and coach, Geoff spent his career inspiring students and athletes in the Smithtown school district as a teacher, football, and lacrosse coach. His impact extended far beyond the classroom and field, maintaining close ties with former students and players for decades. His contributions to athletics were celebrated with his induction into the Smithtown Athletic Hall of Fame.
Geoff had a deep love for the beach, particularly Ocean City, NJ, where he spent every summer since 1944, creating memories that spanned generations. He was a lifelong dog lover, with a special fondness for golden retrievers and black labs, and leaves behind his loyal four-legged companion, Kelsey.
Geoffrey’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, and dedication—to his family, his students, and his community. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Gimme Shelter Animal Rescue
