Dennis J. Hickey, 87, of Rocky Point, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024. A devoted husband, uncle, and friend, Dennis leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and a commitment to community.
Dennis shared 61 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Carol. Together, they built a life filled with cherished memories, shared passions, and steadfast devotion. Dennis is predeceased by his brothers, Robert and John Hickey, and we take comfort knowing they are reunited once more.
He will be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews: Kathleen Hickey Wallis (Jim), Robert Hickey III, Susan Chapman (Terry), Christopher Hickey (Carleen), Cate Larsen, and David Straub. Dennis also leaves behind his treasured grand-nieces and grand-nephews: Caroline, Grace, and Jack Wallis; Zachary and Samuel Chapman; Jillian and Allison Hickey; and Anetta Larsen, all of whom brought him great joy.
Dennis retired as a research engineer from A.I.L. Systems in Deer Park, NY, where his career was marked by dedication and innovation. Beyond his professional achievements, Dennis was an active member of his community. He proudly served with the Albertson Fire Department Exempt Organization where he played on the softball team, participated on the Tournament Drill Team and was a former member of the Old Field Point Power Squadron, where his love for boating found a supportive community.
A true mariner at heart, Dennis and Carol embarked on countless boating adventures, exploring destinations like Canada, Block Island, and the Chesapeake Bay. Among his fondest memories were their trips to Ireland, where Dennis delved into his Irish heritage and connected with family roots. Ever resourceful, he enjoyed tinkering around the house and working on his cherished boat.
Dennis’s warmth, curiosity, and generosity of spirit touched everyone who knew him. While his passing leaves a profound void, his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he enriched.
