Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, William Dale Cooper Hoskins, 87, passed away on May 11, 2013 in Murray, Utah. He was born in Wellsville, Utah on January 18, 1926 to William J. and Elizabeth Cooper Hoskins. He married his sweetheart Lois Ann Baxter on June 29, 1950 in the Logan Utah Temple.
William was a lifelong member of the LDS church. He loved to serve others and exemplified friendship and fellowship to those around him. Among his callings he served as a Seventy in the Stake Mission, Sunday School President and as a faithful home teacher. He always exhibited a great testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through his love and service for others and most importantly his family.
He graduated from South Cache High School where he played football and basketball. He was recognized as an All-State player in football and was always very proud of this accomplishment. Even later in life watching football was always one of his favorite past times.
William served his county valiantly during WWII. He was drafted right out of high school and assigned to serve in Germany for over a year. He also served as an MP in Japan after the atomic bomb was dropped.
William was a hard worker and always made sure his family was well taken care of. He spent long hours working as a manager of 7 auto parts stores for 34 years (Bradshaw Auto Parts, APS and Yoho Automotive). He started in Logan and was later transferred to Salt Lake where he raised his family.
One of William’s greatest legacies is the cabin he built with his sons in Mt. Haven. The cabin became a place where his family could gather and enjoy making memories together. When the grandkids were young he loved driving up to the cabin in his little white truck with a load of grandkids in the back for their annual Grandma’s Day. Every 4th of July the entire Hoskins’ Family still enjoys spending time with Grandma and Grandpa up at the cabin. William loved the cabin and spent a lot of time there. He was the President of Mt. Haven Association for 4 years.
William loved spending part of the year with his sweetheart in St George, occasionally taking time to getaway to their favorite vacation spot in Costa Mesa, California. William and Lois were examples to their family of complete devotion. It is obvious how much they love each other by how they cared for each other later in life. Even with declining health William held on for several more years concerned for the well-being of his sweetheart Lois.
William is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lois Ann Hoskins; children, Dale (Vickie) Hoskins, DeAnn (Dave) Clark, Steven (Nancy) Hoskins; 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. William is also survived by his sister Mildred (Lew) Cook. He is preceded in death by his parents and four other siblings.
Funeral services for William will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 12:00 noon at the Millstream Ward, 3400 South 1100 East. Friends may call on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, and again at the church on Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services.
