Thomas Clinton Barron was born in Salt Lake City on May 31, 1940. He died of respiratory failure in Ogden at the age of 81 on September 8, 2021. Tom’s parents were Rose Bess and James Clinton Barron. His “real” Dad, the man he was so proud of and who always introduced Tom as his son, was John N. Gillies, his much-loved and admired step-father.
Tom was a proud member of the Class of 1958 at South High School. He furthered his education with a two-year accounting degree from Stevens-Henager College. He started his career as an accountant at Porte Publishing Company (later Franklin Press) and worked there for many years. A second career later in life took him to Convergys as a supervisor where he made many friends and truly enjoyed his work,
The absolute love of Tom’s life was his high school sweetheart, Nancy Lee Telford, who he met in chemistry class his senior year. They married for the first time on February 18, 1961. Misunderstandings and life in general intervened and Tom and Nancy divorced in 1979. After multiple additional marriages on Tom’s part, and a 33 year passage of time, he and Nancy married for the second time on May 17, 2012 on the beach in Maui, Hawaii. The following nine years were spent enjoying their second chance at happiness and sharing many adventures and so much fun. They traveled extensively- cruising several times through the Panama Canal, multiple times to Hawaii and Alaska and the Caribbean. They also enjoyed spending as much time as possible at their condo in Mesquite, Nevada.
Tom is survived by his wife, Nancy Lee Telford Barron Kendell Barron, and their only son, Russell Thomas Barron and Russ’s wife Sonia. He is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Tom is preceded in death by his mother, father, “Dad” and one brother, three sisters, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, brother-in-law and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside services for Tom will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 south Highland Drive where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Best Friends Animal Society, PO Box 567, Kanab, Utah 84741. (Tom loved dogs!)
A very special thank you to the doctors and nurses in the Cardiac Care Unit at McKay-Dee Hospital. Your kindness, caring and consideration made an intolerable situation easier to bear.
“Once in a lifetime, you find someone special. Your lives intermingle, and somehow you know this is the beginning of all you have longed for. A love you can build on. A love that will grow. Once in a lifetime, to those who are lucky, a miracle happens-and dreams do come true. They say that the third time is a charm, but Tom and I were over-achievers. It only took us two tries to find such happiness! We were blessed to find our love for each other and to have experienced one of the world’s best love stories first hand. Tom, You have been the heart and soul of my life and will be missed beyond words. Thank you for the best nine years of my life. Until we meet again….” Nancy
