Thomas Peter Andreas Andre passed away on March 7, 2025 after a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. He faced each day with humor and gratitude for the many people who showed such love and support for him and for his family.
The sixth and seventh of eight children, he and his twin brother Michael were born on April 1, 1958 in Vienna, Austria to Ludmilla Bartos and Leopold Andrejewitsch. Thomas grew up in Vienna where he lived a life of constant adventure. As a young man, he earned a degree in electrical engineering, served in the Austrian military, developed a love of cars, computers, trains, water sports, airplanes, movies, scuba diving, and people, and made it his goal in life to make every day fun for himself and those around him.
He was a faithful member of the LDS church, and served a mission in Coventry, England and later Salt Lake City North (where he transferred for surgery and recovery after blowing out his knee during an ill-fated P-day soccer game). Upon his return to Vienna, he worked for Wolfgang Denzel Kfz AG. He married Lucy Knight on May 9, 1987 in Salt Lake City, Utah. After living in Vienna for several years, Thomas and Lucy and their family relocated to Bountiful, Utah, where they raised their four children, who are the light of their lives. Thomas earned an additional bachelor's degree in Aviation Management and an MBA from Westminster College. Continuing his life’s theme of chasing adventure and always seeking knowledge, he established and later sold a helicopter business. Subsequently, he decided to pursue another of his passions by founding a photography, video, and digital production business.
Thomas was a gifted photographer and he and his camera were fixtures on the sidelines at games, in front of the stage at dance recitals, and at any number of family gatherings and community events. He freely shared his photographs with friends and family, bringing joy to all who were able to relive happy memories through his pictures.
Although Thomas was never bored being alone, he was absolutely a people person. He made friends easily and was universally loved. From the people who worked in stores and restaurants he frequented to the people he met on the street on his daily walks, everyone had something good to say about him. He took the time to truly nurture friendships. His humor and his stories made life fun.
He had a wide variety of interests and he chased them enthusiastically. His curiosity and thirst for learning was inspirational. He had more energy than 10 people. It is typical of him that he was diagnosed with stage 4 advanced pancreatic cancer after stopping off at the ER for a CT scan on the way home from an 80 mile bike ride, and that he was photographing an event three days after suffering a stroke.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy; his children, Adam, Salt Lake City; Jason (Colleen Collins), New York City; Amy, Salt Lake City; and Simon, currently serving an LDS mission in the Baltic States. He is also survived by his brothers, Michael Andre (Cheryl) and Roland (Claudine); sisters Ruth Huber (Gottfried), Renate Andrejewitsch, and Claudia Schmuck (Karl); brothers and sisters-in law Kevin Knight, Karen Knight, Steven Knight (Carol), and David Knight; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who became family across the globe. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Ronald and Harald Andrejewitsch, his parents-in-law, Kenneth and Nancy Knight, and nephews Tommy Knight and Logan Knight.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Scott Erickson, Dr. Ignacio Garrido, Dr. Jonathan Whisenant, Pete Hansen and the staff at Huntsman Cancer Center and Aspen Ridge Hospice for their loving and attentive care during Thomas’ illness.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 11:00 am. Friends may call on Friday, March 14, from 6-8 pm or 9:30-10:30 the morning of the funeral. All events will be held at the Bountiful Mueller Park Stake Center building located at 1800 Mueller Park Road, Bountiful, Utah, 84010.
