Ron was born April 2, 1959 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Harry and Gayle Garrett. Prior to beginning his working career, Ron served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in England. Ron spent his working years as a heating and air expert, working thirty years with Welch Heating and Air and finishing his career with Just Right Heating and Air. Ron was a craftsman through and through. There was nothing that he couldn’t do with his gifted hands. If he hadn’t done it before he would figure it out. He always gave his best efforts when remodeling at home or for other people who benefited from his skill. There was no project too big for Ron, particularly with Joni as his assistant.
Ron had a big heart, and his goal was to make Joni happy. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for her. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 5, 1990 and were companions day in and day out. Family came first and to this end his children felt safe, loved, and supported in all things. According to Katelyn, Ron held the standard of being a good marriage partner and what a real man should be. The girls felt lucky and grateful to call him dad.
If you knew Ron, you knew that he could talk to anyone. His quick wit and contagious laughter, with his whole body, endeared him to all. He was a friend to anyone who crossed his path. He was always willing to lend a hand.
As a family they had many traveling adventures, visited many places, and had a wide variety of experiences. Ron was always up for games with family, bow hunting up Beaver Canyon, and sitting by the fire. One of his favorite moments was his first look at Emmalee in her wedding dress.
Ron loved Diet Coke, frog-eye salad, and cookies. Aside from peanut butter cookies there wasn’t a cookie he didn’t like. He regarded potatoes as God’s food.
With those calloused and hard worked hands he expanded his talents by learning how to do counted cross stitch. There was no stitchery too big or too complicated for Ron, and their home is adorned with his beautiful and delicate work. Counted cross stitch gave him an additional creative outlet that relaxed him and brought him satisfaction and joy.
He is survived by his heart and soulmate, Joni Lee Browne Garrett, children Emmalee Jean (Jeffrey) Anderson, Katelyn Anne Garrett and Zachary Garrett. He is survived by mother, Gayle Garrett, and siblings Linda Moore (Allen), Rickie Garrett (Debby), and Susan Terrell (Michael). He was preceded in death by Harry Lee Garrett (father), Patty and Debbie Drake, and Judy Garrett (sisters).
Ron leaves a big hole in many people’s lives and will be dearly missed and talked about with love for many years.
