On January 6, 2023, surrounded by his daughters and his sister, Garry sailed off onto his final journey. He passed away peacefully and he is now free of the pain he had been suffering with and has joined his son Rob that he missed so very much.
He was born in January 1935, in Murray Utah to Robert F. Carlson and Alice M. Carlson. He spent his childhood in Oakland, CA, Salt Lake City, Murray, Roosevelt, Price Utah, and Goodsprings Nevada.
He graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City, UT in 1953.
He married Lois Diane Berrett in October 1962 and they had 3 children, Dawn, Rob and Darcy, they later divorced but remained friends. They lived in Denver, CO, Tarzana, CA, Eugene, OR and Salt Lake City, Utah. He later lived in San Diego, CA, Salt Lake City, UT and Phoenix, AZ.
Boy did he love women and he was a big flirt. He was a very generous man and loved to spoil his family and friends.
Garry was not big on material possessions and preferred experiences with family and friends. The one exception to that was cars! He loved his cars and owned Porches, a Corvette, a Mustang and of course his "super truck," as he called it, to name few. He enjoyed traveling.
Garry loved the outdoors and spent much of his time camping, fishing, hunting, golfing, hiking, biking, playing tennis and doing his two very favorite things, sailing and skiing. He had a sailboat and docked at The Bear Lake Marina and then The Great Salt Lake Marina. He loved sailing! His cabin at Bear Lake was enjoyed by family and their friends for years. He was on the Park City Ski Patrol for many years and developed many long lasting friendships. He was also Chairman of the National Review Board for Ski Patrolmen for Utah. He was fascinated with the weather and checked it and the price of oil every day.
Professionally he had many, many talents. In his younger years he worked in a grocery store. He was a Registered Abstractor, Licensed Title and Escrow Officer, Real Estate Agent, Appraiser, Loan Officer, did cell site leasing, oil, mineral and gas leasing and he enjoyed being an expert witness in many court cases. He owned and operated all or part of six title agencies in Utah, Colorado and Oregon. He was a Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer for the Salt Lake County Title Association, Secretary/Treasurer for the Utah Land Title Association and President of Utah Title Insurance Bureau. He served in the Air National Guard. He was a founding board member of the Salt Lake Martini Foundation & Trust aka as the Martini Bash.
He is survived by daughters Dawn C. Siddoway and Darcy B. Carlson, grandchildren Chase B. Siddoway, Courtney N. Siddoway, Colton J. Siddoway(Marisa) and great-grandchildren, Tiyanikka Siddoway, Dannikka Siddoway, Bentley Siddoway and Brexton Siddoway, sister Annette Davis(Jerry) and nephew Jason Mannos.
