With a mixture of joy and sadness we say goodbye to our cherished companion, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Rae Jean Poulter Davis passed away on Monday at age 83 after a short illness in the hospital.
Rae Jean was born in Ogden, Utah, the oldest of five children to G. Raymond Poulter and Winona Porter. Darhle (Lee) Farber; Karen (Dale) Swenson; Donald (Linda) Poulter; Sheryl Ann (Ellis) Rees. She attended the schools in Ogden where her favorite teacher was her father who taught German and history at Ogden High School. They walked to school together each morning for two years. The fondest memories of her youth include working in the bee yards and bee house with her father, playing tennis, and visiting Escalante, Utah where she spent her summer days on a horse with her cousins and visiting grandparents. Rae Jean was gifted with a beautiful soprano voice and performed in numerous vocal groups. She attended Weber State College where she received her associate degree.
On September 14, 1956 she married her sweetheart Paul N. Davis in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with 7 children and raised them in Holladay where their home was warm and inviting and always decorated for every holiday. Her home was a reflection of her love of antiques and her pioneer heritage. Rae Jean and Paul taught their children an appreciation for music with countless hours practicing, music lessons, performing in recitals, orchestras and church meetings.
Rae Jean loved serving in the church, Relief Society, with the youth, especially her Blazer B's. She supported her husband in many leadership positions including presiding over the Manchester England Mission from 1988-1991. In her later years she specialized in German indexing.
Rae Jean had a strong maternal instinct and being a mother, grandmother of 36 and great-grandmother of 17+ was her greatest joy. Children: Jill (Brad) Stewart, Barbara (Michael) Ward, Diane (Curtis) Reese, Brent (Lisa) Davis, Kaye (Kimo) Esplin, RuthAnn (Corey) Glade and Jared (deceased).
