Penny Lou Hansen Davis, age 70, passed away with her family by her side on August 27, 2015 after a long and valiant battle with lung cancer. Penny was born May 23, 1945, to Amasa Jay “Bud” Hansen and Pearl LaRue Anderson Hansen. She married her high school sweetheart, best friend and true love of her life, Gene Davis, on March 9, 1971. She was the loving mother to her two children, James and Pamela, who were blessed with the good fortune of having her as a stay at home mom. She enjoyed helping out at their school functions and just being there waiting for them when they got home each day. In addition, Penny spent many years babysitting the children of family members and friends, whom she thought of and cared for as if they were her own. Once her children grew up, she returned to work with the Salt Lake County Clerk’s Office in their Marriage and Passport Division, where she made many friends. Penny adored all of her grandchildren and loved spoiling them. She often treated them to shopping sprees for ice cream, books, and craft projects. She loved all holidays and every season she would decorate her house to the rafters. Penny was widely known as the “Queen of Crafts”. Whether it was painting, sewing, knitting, or beading, you could always find her at her kitchen table working on a new project. She frequently donated her crafts to charity auctions.
Penny leaves behind her devoted husband, Gene; her two children who will miss her dearly, James Davis (Heather), Pamela Stam (Jacob); 12 grandchildren, Jesika (Cameron), Brittany, Byron, Justin, Elizabeth, Sydney, Nicole, Abilyn, Dakota, Joshua and Brigham; siblings Steve Hansen, Jeff Hansen, John Hansen and Sandra Tew. Penny was preceded in death by both of her parents and two sisters, Barbara Mottin and Sally Weber.
We wish to extend our deepest gratitude to all of those with Huntsman Cancer Institute, and in particular to Dr. Akerley, Terry and Julie for providing Penny with remarkable care and compassion. We would also like to thank Mindy Tanner with Community Nursing Hospice Services for her sincere comfort in Penny’s final days.
