Salt Lake City, Utah—It is with great sadness that the family of Paul Hugh Thatcher announces his passing on Monday, July 26, 2021, at the age of 72. He died at the Rocky Mountain Care Center-Hunter Hollow after a short illness from pneumonia and other health issues under hospice care.
Paul was born on December 12, 1948, in Salt Lake City, the seventh child born to Ruth Morton Thatcher and William Roy Thatcher. He grew up in the Salt Lake area and attended schools here. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married his wife, Judith Adams Thatcher, on June 30, 2007, later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple.
He worked at numerous jobs throughout his life but felt great pride upon being able to be hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad as a carman. He later retired in 2011 after 16 years of service.
Paul was a gentle soul who had his health struggles but remained kind, loving and humble. He was always interested in current events and liked to keep up on the news and discuss the latest with his good friend, Wayne Bickley.
He is survived by his wife, his son, Cory Paul (Mindy), his daughter Amanda Jewell (Michael) Young, step-daughter, Jennifer Lynne Thatcher, and half-brother, Kevin Smith (Nadine). Survived by 6 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Morton and William Roy, and siblings, Edwin, Alta, Laura, John, Sylvia, and David.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, Millcreek, Utah 84106, with a viewing one hour prior to the service as well as a viewing on Monday, August 2, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment will follow the funeral at the Kaysville City Cemetery.
