Norman Lynn Sorensen
86 years
South Jordan, Utah.
Norman Lynn Sorensen was born on Nov 15, 1935 in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City Utah. He was the second child of four siblings. Norman attended Cardon Elementary school, Irving Jr High School and South High School. Although he had polio as a young child, he overcame it and went on to excel in every sport he tried. He was dubbed "The Natural" by his coach and the nickname stuck.
Norman joined the Army as a Medic shortly after graduating from South High School and served in the 2nd Armored Division ("Hell on Wheels") deployed in Germany. While on leave he traveled extensively throughout Europe. After being honorably discharged, Norman entered Dixie College in St George, played on the college baseball team and was a cheerleader. As a student, Norman met the love of his life, Colleen Hunt from Santa Clara, Utah. They recalled many happy times watching the sunsets over the red mountains.
After graduating from Dixie College with his Associate Degree, Norman and Colleen were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 17, 1959. They settled and started their life together in the Sugarhouse area. Norman worked at the Univac division of the Sperry Rand Corporation for a time after which he joined the Utah Highway Patrol where he was stationed on the border of Utah and Wyoming near Evanston. Norman would travel daily between the border and Weber State for classes after which he would return to Coalville where he, Colleen and their 4 children were living during this time. Norman's persistency, dedication and loyalty to his family was always evident. Upon completing his Bachelors of Science from Weber State, he obtained a job as a Probation Officer and a Court Liaison for the Juvenile Court.
Norman had many great musical abilities, including the accordion, harmonica and piano. He also loved to sing and sang in the church choir for many years.
He held many callings, some of which were Scout Master, Stake Sports Director, Temple worker, volunteer for the Cannery and provided security at night for the church building. He was honest in all his dealings and was a wonderful example to his children. He emulated the scout oath throughout his life.
Norman returned to his Heavenly Father and his beloved wife Colleen on July 16, 2022. He is survived by his sister (Rosalie Richards), his six children (Julie and Larry Rust, Sheri and Brain Graham, Patrick Sorensen, Kindra and Adam Catmull, Jodi and Carl Hovey and Dan and Ali Sorensen), twenty-two grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. We love and will miss you greatly!
