Our beloved mother returned to her Father in Heaven on January 6, 2023. The first of five children born to Phyllis and Roger Armstrong, Mitzi lived her early years in Ephraim, Utah and had so many fond memories of that time. She graduated from Snow College where she met her sweetheart, Kenneth Osborne. They were married in the Manti Temple and enjoyed 52 wonderful years together until his death in 2003.
Mitzi was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many ward callings and also in the Joseph Smith Building and the Salt Lake Temple. Proud of her pioneer heritage, she assembled numerous family history books and distributed them to extended family, a real labor of love. She made certain her missionaries received a letter every single week.
Mitzi enjoyed traveling: family vacations to the beach in California and Hawaii as well as with Ken on business trips all over the country, especially Washington D.C. where they visited many times, sometimes accompanied by children and grandchildren. She loved a good phone conversation or visit, walking with friends, going shopping or out to lunch with her kids, and any family gathering. We all agree that her Christmas cookies were the best!
Mom was an amazing caregiver in so many different ways. She took care of her aging mother and ailing husband with patience and love. She was always there for her children and was actively involved in the lives of her grandkids, spending countless hours babysitting and attending their sporting events, dance performances, piano recitals, and art shows over the years. Nothing made her happier than being with her family.
True to her nature, Mitzi had a great sense of humor and a fierce independence right up to the end. She will be deeply missed by her four children: Sharon Gilson, Marilyn Osborne (Cliff), Elaine Brough (Bill) and Michael Kenneth Osborne, eight grandchildren: Jane, Laura, Molly, Sean, Will, Eliza, Emma and Sam, and six great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters, Ruth Lambert and Jean Campbell, and her brother, Fred Armstrong. Preceded in death by her sister, Louise Bryner, and granddaughter, Dana Grey.
Our family would like to express gratitude for the loving attention given to “our mama” by her caregivers at Escalante at Coventry and Utah Home Health and Hospice. We can’t thank them enough for their support.
Visitation for friends and family will be Thursday evening, January 12, 2023 from 6:30-8:00 pm at the Mount Olympus Fortuna Ward, 4407 Fortuna Way. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 13 at the same location, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
