Marilyn Leggett Morgan, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, after battling dementia. She was surrounded by her loving family, friends, and the compassionate staff at Sunrise Memory Care.
Born on December 11, 1944, in Murray, Utah, to Ernest and Eleanor Leggett, Marilyn spent her early years enjoying the outdoors near Vine Street, playing in the creek, and exploring the Historic Wheeler Farm area. On February 4, 1969, she married the love of her life, Derrell Grant Morgan, in Reno, Nevada. Together, they built a beautiful life in Sandy, Utah, raising their two daughters, Nicole (Richard) Butler and Samantha (Eric) Start.
Marilyn and Derrell embarked on a new chapter when they opened the Arctic Circle Restaurant on 3900 South in Salt Lake City, where they spent many happy years working side by side. Their lives were filled with adventure, from exploring canyons in their motorhome to boating and snowmobiling with family.
After retirement, Marilyn dedicated her time to community service, contributing to the Sandy City Beautification Committee and the Sandy Garden Club. Those around her felt her quiet acts of kindness, and she was known for her love of animals, her passion for the environment, and her willingness to help others. She was a devoted grandmother, always finding joy in her grandchildren, and she was ahead of her time in her commitment to recycling and charitable giving.
Following Derrell’s passing, Marilyn found comfort in learning about the gospel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and cherished the companionship of her "Single Sisters" group in the Telford Ward.
Marilyn is survived by her two daughters, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, as well as her sister Carolyn (William) Devenish. She was preceded in death by her husband, Derrell Grant Morgan; her sisters, Beverly (Bill) Esmeyer and Shirley (Bob) Cowley; and her brother, Charles (Marie) Leggett.
A viewing will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary on Saturday, August 31, 2024, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place immediately after at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
