Lynn Dwain Fairbanks, age 86, returned to his heavenly home to be with Carol, the love of his life, on Saturday, November 23, 2019. Lynn was a devoted husband and father of seven children and a loving grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and son.
Lynn was born on July 2, 1933 to Lynn Reed Fairbanks Jr and Josephine Wood Fairbanks as the oldest of five children. After graduating from East High, he married his sweetheart Carol Jean Thedell in the Salt Lake Temple on August 14, 1952. Lynn and Carol started their family while Lynn was serving in the military. They lived in several states including Alabama, Texas, Michigan, California and Utah. Together they enjoyed sixty-six rich and fulfilling years.
Lynn loved the Lord and was faithful and devoted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout his life. He served in many church callings including Bishop of the Royal Oak Ward in the Detroit Stake. In 2000, Lynn and Carol served an LDS mission at the San Diego Mormon Battalion.
Lynn was a true salesman at heart. He started selling cookware door-to-door and later joined the job of a lifetime with O.C. Tanner Co in 1966. His motto at work and in life was “Find A Way.” He never stopped his self-improvement journey and loved sharing what he learned. He loved good food and woke up thinking about it every day. He often said “I live to eat and not the other way around.”
Lynn was the anchor of his family and loved spending time with them and teaching them life lessons. His generosity was an example to us all. He will be dearly missed.
Lynn is preceded in death by his wife Carol Jean Thedell Fairbanks, his parents, Lynn Reed Fairbanks Jr and Josephine Wood Fairbanks Matis, granddaughter Linnie Jean Pinkston, and son-in-law Michael Pinkston.
He is survived by sister, Patricia Wells, and three brothers: Fred (Carrol) Fairbanks; Richard (Nadene) Fairbanks; and Mark (Janice) Fairbanks; his seven children, Janette (Lance) Paull, Susan (Harold) Ellsworth, Karen (Jeff) Pinkston Wajda, Carolynn (Steve) Jennings, Bradford (Lezlie) Fairbanks, Steven (Thalene) Fairbanks, Gregory (Teresa) Fairbanks, 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on December 9, 2019 at 12:00 pm in the LDS chapel at 13366 S 1300 E, Draper, Utah. There will be a viewing from 10-11:30 am prior to the services. Interment will take place at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park at 3401 S. Highland Drive, Millcreek, Utah.
