Born November 10, 1922, to Edwin A. Parsons and Eliza B. Ball, Peggy lived her life with grace, class, and a genuine love for her family and community.
She attended South High School and later graduated from the University of Utah where she served as President of SPURS and marched at school football games, probably because she had great-looking legs! Her love for her alma mater continued as she served as a member of the UofU’s Emeritus Alumni Board, the Pioneer Memorial Theater Guild and the Chi Omega Fraternity's mother's club. She was an Utah Man Fan!
On August 15, 1947, she married the love of her life, John C. Duncan, Jr. in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. In the early years, Peggy worked for United Airlines and served as the first President of the National Secretaries Association of Utah.
Peggy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a firm testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ and His gospel. She used her gifts as a leader, teacher, mentor, and minister. She served as a tour guide at the Beehive House and trained the Hostesses at the Church Office Building for 12 years.
Peggy and “Big John'' were members of Dinner Set, Bonneville Knife and Fork, Study Group, and had season tickets for everything cultural and athletic. They traveled the world, stepping foot on every continent except Antarctica.
“The Little Grams” was a gracious hostess and delighted to welcome family and friends into her home for a lime Coke, gourmet food, and a little hot conversation. Her chocolate parfait cookies, cherry pies, and potatoes around the roast were legendary. Even on Bear Lake, Peggy always had a feast ready to go.
Family was always a priority. Even in her ‘90s, she would be on the floor playing Tiddly-Winks with her great grandchildren.
In her later years, Peggy became known as the “M&M Queen”, a beloved figure to the young people in her neighborhood who would drop in to visit her.
She is survived by her two daughters, Christine (Bert) Wonnacott and Suzanne (Scott) Hansen, her sister Shirley Novak, sister-in-law Jean Duncan, five grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, four siblings, and her grandson Mitchell McKay Hansen.
Please join us in celebrating the life of this truly remarkable, elegant, and classy lady.
A celebration of Peggy’s life includes a visitation on Friday, April 14, 2023, 6-8 PM at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive. On Saturday, April 15, a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Valley View 4th Ward, 2125 East Evergreen Avenue, followed by her funeral at 11:00 AM.
