On August 25, 2016 Leslie Mellenthin Yeates left this world to begin her new adventure. Although she was not anxious to leave her family and friends, she did look forward to seeing her sister and grandparents again. She fought the battle of her life with grace and dignity against the cancer that consumed her whole body and knew when it was finally time to rest from that courageous battle.
Leslie was born on January 16, 1968 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Susan Colianna Hogan and Bill Mellenthin. She had a mop of curls on her head, but she never once complained when she lost those curls to chemotherapy.
She married the love of her life, Darrell Yeates, in May 1988. He was her best friend and constant companion throughout the good and the bad times and took exceptional care of her during her final months. Leslie and Darrell completed their family with three children, Keaton, Mitchell and McKenna, and she often talked about how much she loved each one of them.
She graduated from Alta High School in 1986 and later in life went on to study as a pharmacy technician. Those studies were interrupted but provided her with a thorough knowledge of medical terminology and medications, and she could easily keep up with the doctors' discussions. Her mind and memory were amazing. She was on leave of absence from Verizon Wireless at the time of her death.
Leslie loved family gatherings and always had a kind word for everyone and was blessed with the great gift of being a good listener. She had a loving and giving heart and will be missed by all those whose lives touched hers. When life gave her a hundred reasons to cry, she always gave everyone else a thousand reasons to smile.
The family would like to sincerely thank the doctors and staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, especially Dr. Adam Cohen, Angie and Angela for all their kindness while caring for her and also to CNS Nursing for her hospice care.
She is survived by her devoted husband Darrell, her sons Keaton and Mitchell, her daughter McKenna, sisters Nicole (Danny) Oakden, Tracy Breinholt, brother Matthew (Claire) Mellenthin, brother-in-law John Randles, mother Susan Hogan, father Bill Mellenthin, mother-in-law Rosalye M. Smith, many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and her life-long friends Laura McKenna and Rannett Nuismer. Those who went on before to prepare the way for her glorious arrival are her sister Lisa (John) Randles, and her grandmas and grandpas.
With Leslie's work in this life now complete, the family wishes to celebrate her life. They invite you to join them for services on Thursday, September 1 at 11:00 a.m., at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S Highland Dr, SLC, UT. Friends may call at the Mortuary between 9:30-10:30 prior to the services. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/saltlaketribune/obituary.aspx?n=leslie-mellenthin-yeates&pid=181221311&fhid=11609#sthash.3ouzZDCX.dpuf
